What is Sikyoomu?

This is a community based organization comprising of market vendors living with HIV/AIDS and AIDS. SIKYOMU has 224 (113M, 111F) members who meet regularly to support each other and engage prevention by positives’ activities.

SIKYOOMU Market Vendors Support AIDS Group was started by PLWAs of St. Balikuddembe market in 2005 after attending HIV/AIDS awareness sessions through the Market vendors AIDS Project (MAVAP). Since then, the group has spread to various market places like Nakawa market, Park-yard, Nateete market, to mention but a few

Sikyoomu achievements
  • SIKYOMU is fully registered as a CBO affiliated to Kampala District PHA forum
  • 224 (113M, 111F) SIKYOMU members supported to hold quarterly experiences sharing, psychosocial support and care meetings. Members participate in prevention by positives’ activities as well
  • SIKYOMU, with support from MAVAP, set up a micro deposit scheme for social economic empowerment of market vendors living with HIV and AIDS
