Kampala Markets

Kampala District is divided into five (5) administrative divisions: Kampala Central DivisionKawempe DivisionNakawa DivisionMakindye Division and Lubaga Division.

There are fifteen (15) markets distributed in the four divisions that make up Kampala District. Vendors in these markets deal in a wide range of commodities and services not limited to; Food staff, Clothes, Fruits, Shoes, Bed sheets, Vegetables, Restaurants, Furniture, Textiles among others. Markets in Kampala District include

St. Balikudembe

The vendors and traders are in excess of 50,000 vendors, 70% of whom are women. At least 300,000 customers visit the market on a daily basis and the number of customers increases over the weekend and a few days before a public holiday.

Nakasero Market

Nakasero Market is Kampala’s most famous market located on foot of Nakasero Hill below Kampala Road just about 50 meters off Entebbe. Nakasero Market is among the biggest and largest markets in Kampala City central business District.

Nakawa Market

Located along the Jinja Highway within 4 kilometres from Kampala Town. Nakawa market is one of Kampala’s largest food markets in the Eastern part of the city. For decades, it has been an arrival point of fresh foods from Eastern Uganda.
